Choosing an Agent

Buying a home is most likely the biggest investment you have ever made. With that in mind, you want to ensure that your agent is an expert, who has your best interest at heart. Don’t trust your biggest investment to an agent who is too busy to get to know you, the friend of a friend who has their real estate license, and certainly not someone who is all about low cost, and low service. As you select an agent, you should look for a few important qualities:

1. Your agent should be trustworthy. You need to know that your agent has your best interest at heart, and will represent your interests above all else, including their own compensation. If you start to feel like your agent is more interested in you buying something quickly than helping you to find the right home, then find a new agent!

2. Your agent should be knowledgeable. Does your agent know the area well? Does he or she understand how the values in your target neighborhood are established? In Chicago and Northwest Indiana, every neighborhood has unique influences that impact prices. You don’t want an agent who specializes in everything, but rather one who specializes in the homes/neighborhood’s you are interested in.

3. Your agent should be hard working…for you! There are thousands of agents in Chicago and Northwest Indiana. You want to work with an agent who will go the extra mile for you. If your agent is too busy for you, then he or she isn’t your best representative. Find an agent who will work hard, but always make you their top priority!
